Fixing a Slow iPad / iPhone
If your device is running slow and/or has become laggy, please follow the steps below to try and rectify the issue:
Upgrade to the Latest iOS Version
Upgrading your device will ensure you receive the latest features, security updates and bug fixes and should enhance the performance of your device.

Restart Device
Restarting your device frequently clears out any temporary files or data that may be stored in the device's memory. These temporary files can sometimes accumulate and lead to performance issues, therefore, restarting your device wipes these files clean.

Delete Unnecessary Apps Not in Use
Apps consume a good amount of space, therefore deleting the apps that are not in use will free up space. Ensure you remove the apps completely and not just shut them down.
To delete apps:
iPad:
- Touch and hold the app icon until a drop down menu appears.
- Select 'Remove App'.
- Select 'Delete App'.
- Repeat for any unused apps.
iPhone:
- Touch and hold the app icon until a drop down menu appears.
- Select 'Remove App'.
- Select 'Delete App'.
- Repeat for any unused apps.
Stop Background App Refresh
Background App Refresh allows you to control whether apps are allowed to refresh their content in the background. When Background App Refresh is enabled, apps can check for new data and updates even when you are not using them, which can drain your battery and use up your data. If the Background App Refresh toggle switch is off, apps would only refresh when they are open and are actively being used.
To turn off the Background App Refresh for all apps:
iPad:
- Navigate to 'Settings'.
- Select 'General'.
- Toggle the 'Background App Refresh' option to OFF.
You can also disable Background App Refresh for individual apps:
- Navigate to 'Settings'.
- Select 'General'.
- Identify the apps you wish to disable the Background App Refresh and toggle to OFF.
iPhone:
- Navigate to 'Settings'.
- Select 'General'.
- Select 'Background App Refresh'.
- Toggle to OFF.
You can also disable Background App Refresh for individual apps:
- Navigate to 'Settings'.
- Select 'General'.
- Select 'Background App Refresh'.
- Identify the apps you wish to disable the Background App Refresh and toggle to OFF.
Turn off Notifications
Notifications may slow down your device. To turn them off:
iPad:
- Navigate to 'Settings'.
- Select 'Notifications'.
- Click on each app and toggle the 'Allow Notifications' option to OFF.
iPhone:
- Navigate to 'Settings'.
- Select 'Notifications'.
- Click on each app and toggle the 'Allow Notifications' option to OFF.
Turn Off Location Services
Location services run in the background and can reduce battery power. To turn off Location Services:
iPad:
- Navigate to 'Settings'.
- Select 'Privacy & Security'.
- Toggle the 'Location 'Services' to OFF.
- Select 'Turn Off' in the confirm box.
iPhone:
- Navigate to 'Settings'.
- Select 'Privacy & Security'.
- Toggle the 'Location 'Services' to OFF.
- Select 'Turn Off' in the confirm box.
